Other Fun Stuff

It is a big misunderstanding about what Scott's real middle name is.  Some say its Anthony, but it really is Alan.  Before Scott's mother remarried to Dr. Stapp, Scott's name was actually Anthony Scott Flippen.  After his mom got married to Dr. Stapp, the whole family adopted the last name.  This made his initials A.S.S.  He obviously didn't want those as initials so his name was legally changed to Scott Alan Stapp.  Alan is the same middle name as Dr. Stapp's.

Scott loves to play ping-pong before the shows. The band conciders him to be a ping-pong champ. They say this a real stress reliever .He also loves to take a few swings at golf before his shows. This is his true love. In highschool he was a jock, because this was the only thing his parents would let him do. He played football, baseball, and basketball.

Scott wrote "My Own Prison" at 4:00 in the morning. He realized he was just building up reasons to blame people for his mistakes. He say's the song was a turning point in his life.

When asked if he has ever been arrested or in trouble with the law before he responded: "I've been real fortunate that I'm a very fast runner. And I've gotten away every time. One time i jumped off a second story balcony and ran two miles. They busted the party. But I've never seriously busted the law."

Scott attended Tallahassee Community College and received an associates degree in the Arts.

Scott also went to College at Florida State University in Tallahasse.

At the age of 15, Scott met Mark Tremonti while attending Lake Highland Prep School, in Orlando, Florida. Soon after, Scott's father decided to move his family to Tennessee. A few years later he started attending a Christian school called "Lee College" and was soon expelled for smoking marijauna.

Because of the strict situations at home, at the age of 16 Scott decided to run away. He headed to Tallahassee, Florida because he was a big fan of The Doors and had heard that Jim Morrison had once lived there. Coincidently, Mark Tremonti had moved to Tallahasse to attend Florida State University, and the two were reunited.

As a kid, rock music was not allowed in Scott's home. At the age of 11, Scott brought home a Def Leppard album which was quickly disposed of by his parents.

Scott was a BIG Elvis Fan as a kid. He used to love to sing Elvis songs and impersonate him.

The line "should of been dead on a Sunday morning banging my head" from "My Own Prison" was written because Scott had 4 cups of shroom-juice and passed out and woke up on a Sunday morning literally banging his head because he thought he was going to die.

Scott wrote "With Arms Wide Open" when he found out he was becoming a father. He sang it repeatedly to his unborn child during Hillaree's pregnancy and in the delivery room when Jagger was born. After Jagger's birth, Scott issued a statement to fans asking them to make donations to UNICEF rather than send flowers or gifts to his family. "We feel that rather than receive individual gifts, it would be more meaningful to children everywhere," Stapp wrote. At the time of the statement, Creed had already contributed $5,000 to the fund.

"New bands are going to get comparisons; you know a lot of 'em, always. I think the nay-sayers haven't listened to the record, and haven't heard what makes us Creed."
